BUSINESS IS PICKING UP. Everyone at work is busy. Furious and at times futile attempts to clear work on time. The sharing of gossips in the company transport that used to be part and parcel of every working day ... is now replaced by silence. Each in their own thoughts. Many in the same direction. How to try to finish work as quickly as possible to avoid staying late working or bring work home.

Alas! Every relationship takes effort to maintain. Social topics of conversation are rarely heard these days. Replaced by discussions, conference calls, emails. All about work.

Yes. BUSINESS IS PICKING UP. Along with that, Stress Level and Work Load increase proportionately as well.

<msn:type>blogentry</msn:type><live:type>blogentry</live:type><live:typelabel>Blog entry</live:typelabel>

<dcterms:modified>2007-04-11T01:18:05Z</dcterms:modified>

My Silly Sis!

My sis in Australia found her frog! And the frog is soon turning into her prince!

I am so happy for her. In the same plight we abide in different lands. The joy of her new-found love brightens my day as if it were my own.

VicVic! Bring him to Singapore!

<msn:type>blogentry</msn:type><live:type>blogentry</live:type><live:typelabel>Blog entry</live:typelabel>

<dcterms:modified>2007-02-08T01:28:45Z</dcterms:modified>

Days of Pok-Kah-Ray-Nas-Kah

The Matchmakers' Reunion was quite a success.

Kenneth aka Ah Bun

The proud organizer of this event was professional to the very end. We even received a door gift - A crytal charm to hang the handphone, it now hangs right in front of me at my work station. Bun is still a matchmaker at SDS. Just got to know yesterday that he got a Golden Horse Award as the most popular Wedding Planner of SDS.

Sally Ang

Now is the department of Dollars and Cents in PA. Every bit a proud mother. The last time I saw her, she was still thinking of which country to send her only precious son for tertiary education. Time flies! The son has now completed the first year. With two more years to go.

Irene Chia aka Mdm

Is now pregnant with her third child! A girl this time after Glenn and Waynne. Still so proud of her two boys and is now a consultant to MCYS.

Wendy Chooi aka Smalla

She got promoted to be Deputy Head for the department at the same time as me. She is the only one (besides Ah Bao) whom I still keep in touch with.

Mei Choo aka The Empress

Is now some manager of a community centre. Still her happy-go-lucky self.

May Tan aka Tiger (pronounced as Tee Ger)

Among all the ex-matchmakers, I was most looking forward to meeting her. May was the one who sat in the cubicle right in front of me. We had our differences and we even had a big fight once over distribution of work for a joint event. But through all the sour and sweet moments, we were able to get along quite well. She is now a manager in the Deputy President's Office (what's that?) in Nanyang Technological University.

Gina

Is now still working in SDS. I fondly remember how she assisted me in rushing my excel spreadsheets out on time when I need to submit my quarterly or half-yearly reports. She also helped me so much in tabulating my findings for the many surveys that I did on members.

Jane

This girl-next-door whom I did not relate much to is still her gentle self to this day. One who always greets you will a smile and quiet attention in the group's gossip session.

Among the above were Siew Noi & Priscilla whom joined and left SDS before I even joined the department.

<msn:type>blogentry</msn:type><live:type>blogentry</live:type><live:typelabel>Blog entry</live:typelabel>

<dcterms:modified>2006-12-14T08:43:57Z</dcterms:modified>

Matchmakers' Reunion

It's been ten years.

I joined SDS (Social Development Service) about ten years ago as an organizer.

A Match-Maker somewhat.

For nearly three years, I played the role of a cupid.

To try to help singles find that right one in their lives.

Tonight. Ten years later.

I am meeting my fellow matchmakers ...

May Tan, who contested me in the arena of craziness.

Wendy Chooi, who spent many hours in the arcade after many of our events.

Kasmas, my neighbour in the office, who took pride in all his flyers, brochures, events.

Kenneth Lee, still a matchmaker there to this day, and the organizer of this reunion.

Mei Choo, no matter how big or stressful the event was, she was always cool, calm & collected.

Irene Tan, the head of all matchmakers .. then.

Sally Ang, my fellow deputy, who brainstormed many hours with me.

Delphine Lee, all I recall is her contagious laughter. She was my mentor when I first joined.

Kumar, the one who always took pride in managing our volunteers then. Still a matchmaker to this day.

....

And a few others whom I worked with shortly before I left this family of cupids.

Wendy is right. I am looking forward to the reunion tonight.

More than a month since Vic Vic was here for the handover.

Too tied up to plan any programme for her visit.

Only managed a sisterly dinner over steamboat.

All Good (and bad) things must come to an end"

Met up with Arthur, Sam, Pauline and Aung for dinner on Thursday @Shaw Towers to celebrating completion of bond with his ex-company.

Juicy updates about all ex-colleagues: Bamboo has also left, The Patch has lost his prowess, Bao Wow reigns now. Godma sprained her ankle. Mag is in Jur Tech. Even the controller has left. Master Xu has taken up sales. XiuGe has a second son. Sam is registered but not yet married. Arthur is married planning to have baby soon.

Which brought me to think: All good or bad things will pass away. Are you happy now? Or Sad? Relaxed or Stressed? All these, too, shall pass away.

<msn:type>blogentry</msn:type><live:type>blogentry</live:type><live:typelabel>Blog entry</live:typelabel>

<dcterms:modified>2006-07-22T03:43:24Z</dcterms:modified>

Happy Birthday!

1Jun06

Vic Vic has only joined my company for less than a year. During this period of time, however, she has proven herself to be more than competent in all ways. On Thursday, we were told by the Management that the team has been officially split into two regions. It will no longer be Asia Pac Region. It would be Asia and South Pacific respectively.

In view of the above change, Vic Vic has been promoted to be Inventory Manager to replace my ex-functional boss who has moved on to be Product Manager. Status in Asia here is still KIV as transition begins to move the bulk of the work formerly taken care by our South Pacific Team back to Singapore Team who takes care of the Asia Region.

I am genuinely happy for Vic Vic although we secretly shared that we would be happy with just more money. Call us anything you want! The more junior, the better! The split, however, brings quite a few points of uncertainty for the team here in Singapore. How big would it become and who would we be reporting to. Call me stereo-typed. But as far as work is concerned, I prefer to understand a clear line of authority. Right now, during this transition period, I seemed to have become An Abandoned Child. Not knowing who to report to. Who to authorize my purchases. This is not a very pleasant state to be in.

Nonetheless.. Vic Vic, here's to you..."Hip Hip ... Hooray!"

<msn:type>blogentry</msn:type><live:type>blogentry</live:type><live:typelabel>Blog entry</live:typelabel>

<dcterms:modified>2006-05-29T01:23:14Z</dcterms:modified>

Had dinner with Ah Bao yesterday night at Tanjong Pagar. Time flies, it has been three months since the last time we met. That was before she went for her holiday in Taiwan and we spent much time in Borders looking a The Lonely Planet's Series for Taiwan.

The usual updates on latest happenings on her side and my end. Her top priority now is eating and sleeping well to prepare for motherhood. Can't imagine the ra-ra Ah Bao becoming a mummy. But well, guess all girls have to grow up one day!
